Toddler Shabbat

A unique opportunity for parents - grandparents and caregivers of toddlers in our community and beyond.

Beginning this Friday, December 2 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. we will have a Toddler Shabbat program.

What is Toddler Shabbat? It is an opportunity for our youngest children and their parents to have a Shabbat experience which involves play, songs, stories, challah and juice and more.

This is not an Adat Shalom Preschool Program, however it will be held in our Toddler 2 preschool room. We will meet on December 2 and 9 and then will be back in January. In December our Preschool Director, Gail Schmitt will run the program.

This group is open to all. You do not need to be an Adat Shalom member to participate. If you have friends you think may interested, please encourage them to attend. There is no cost for this program.

Thursday, November 3: Adat Shalom Sisterhood presents "A Fun, Informational and Delicious evening" with Dr. Katherine Cicirello, owner of Today's Market. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Cicirello will offer a cooking demonstration offering simple cooking ideas to help your family's health, now and in the future. We invite you to be our guest for the evening. Please feel free to bing a friend or relative. RSVP to Nancy Baum by October 27.

High Holy Days...

The more things change, the more they stay the same." I don't know who originated that quote but it certainly is appropriate for this year's High Holy Days at Adat Shalom. This year Cantor Lehrer has planned an innovative Selichot Service on Saturday, September 24th at 4;00 p.m. to kick off our holiday season and a Family Sukkot decorating party on Sunday, October 16th - with a free lunch !

Our Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services will be held in the usual places and at the usual times, (see elsewhere in the newsletter for the particulars) and we will be welcoming two special guests. Rabbi Gary Karlin, from Teaneck, New Jersey, will lead services with Cantor Lehrer in the sanctuary and Rabbi Arnold Samlan, from Long Island, New York, will join Sheldon Catz in the social hall. Both Rabbis have been in close touch with Cantor Lehrer and Sheldon over the summer and I can promise you warm and exciting services in both venues.

Be sure to join us at Squaw Valley Park on Tuesday, October 4th at 4:00 p.m., the first day of Rosh Hashanah, for the Tashlich Service. Don't forget to B.Y.O.B. (bring your own bread - but not too much as the township does not want us to feed the ducks !) Hopefully by that time, the lake will be refilled. If not, we will use the stream. Dress is informal and refreshments will be served.

And finally, if you are interested in serving on the Ritual Committee for a year, please let me know.

The entire Ritual Committee joins me in wishing you and yours a Happy and Healthy 5766 L'Shanan Tovah. – Linda Levine

Tenth-Year Gala - a Decade of Devotion...

Adat Shalom celebrated its 10th Anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 18, with a fantastic gala featuring our new Rabbi, Daniel Kripper, and his wife Flora. Although Rabbi Kripper's term doesn't begin until Dec. 1, he and Flora flew in for this special event.

Over 220 guests dined on a delicious buffet of salmon and wonderful desserts, catered by Big Burrito.  After dinner the guests were treated to a wild and crazy review of the past decade, in a parody of Saturday Night Live by a super cast that, well, will never be ready for prime time. Congratulations to Gala Chair Debbie Wein, assisted by Gala Event Chairs DeDe Fink, Bernie Newman and Randi Sigal, plus Committee Chairs Jan Moravitz, Laurie Singer, Suzie Gurwin, Ellen Wein, Nancy Berk, Heather Schreiber, Joan Ettinger, AhmieBaum, Neil Rosen and Paul Rosenberg.
