Although our mailing address is "Cheswick, Pa.", the Adat Shalom campus is actually located in Indiana Township at 368 Guys Run Road in what is known as the Fox Chapel Area (the area served by the Fox Chapel Area school district). This area includes the townships of Indiana and O'Hara as well as the borough of Fox Chapel. We are within a five minute drive of Pennsylvania Turnpike exit 5 and of Pennsylvania Route 28.

Approximately 500 Jewish families have located in the Fox Chapel Area with the main attractions being an award winning public school system and newer, desirable housing. Our building sits on 18 acres, leaving plenty of room for our future expansion plans. Currently we have 15 classrooms in addition to the facilites highlighted elsewhere on this web site. On-site parking is plentiful most of the time and our building is handicapped accessible.

The Chapel

The Adat Shalom Chapel was completed on Rosh Hashana Eve, 1996/5757 just in time for that year's High Holy Days services.  Our facility incorporates many traditional ques that imbue an "old shul" feel.  It also has an effective sound system, excellent heating and cooling, and comfortable open-pew seating.  The highlight of the Chapel is the set of eight stained-glass windows from the former Beth Jacob building, dating back to about 1900.  The windows were adapted specifically for the new Chapel and exhibit designs that are unique to a bygone era.  The Bimah furniture comes to Adat Shalom from B'nai Israel, complementing the merger theme of combining the old with the new.

Located just outside of the Chapel is Margaret's Garden, dedicated by Dr. Jon and Roberta Schwartz in memory of Margaret Schwartz Furman.  The Garden provides a peaceful place to reflect during a break from formal services and is also used frequently by the entire Congregation for Hallel and other prayers.

Our chapel's state-of-the-art sound system is piped into the library so that congregants and visitors can listen to services while taking a break from formal prayer.  Inspiring Shabbat/Yom Tov reading material is available for adults while children can enjoy their own special area during a shul break.  The library is also used for synagogue board meetings and other meetings where a warm atmosphere is desired.

Kitchen...

Adat Shalom is a kosher facility with a fully equipped kosher kitchen capable of preparing both meat and dairy meals.  The banner "kosher" applies to the entire building, and we require families to be certain that the food or snacks that they bring into the building or send with their children have the proper kosher markings.

A catering committee is established and is to be contacted before any event utilizing food.  Events may be catered by the Synagogue, or by professional caterers on our approved list.  New caterers can be added to the list after consultation with the catering committee and the Rabbi.  We encourage members to take advantage of our kitchen facilites. In order to properly assure that the kitchen is truly kosher, however, only the Adat Shalom staff, approved caterers and the Sisterhood or Men's Club catering committee may cook or work in the kitchen. In addition, all foods served at Adat Shalom must be prepared on site.
