CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE SYNAGOGUE

The way in which any non-profit organization funds itself is through private contributions.  Many of our programs and expenses are funded by contributions, whether they are called dues, gifts or pledges. In order to do that “little bit extra” beyond our normal budgetary plans, we have established several funds within the Synagogue. Below are descriptions of these funds and how the money is spent.

We encourage you to use these funds as a way of honoring or remembering friends and relatives. Give a gift of tzedakah to the Synagogue on the occasion of an anniversary, a birthday, graduation, marriage, birth, recovery from illness, or in memory of a departed friend or loved one. A note, acknowledging your contribution, will be sent to the family honored or remembered by you.

TYPES OF CONGREGATIONAL FUNDS

Adat Shalom currently has the following funds established. From time to time as our Synagogue grows new funds may be added to satisfy particular needs of our growing congregation.

BUILDING FUND:  Exodus 25:8 states “Let them make Me a sanctuary that I may dwell among them.”
These moneys are used for the Synagogue’s physical upkeep, repair and improvement. Beautification is also a part of this fund, and areas such as landscaping, painting and decorating fall into this category.

ADAT SHALOM LIBRARY FUND:  Donations to this fund provide for the purchase of books and magazines which become a permanent part of the Adat Shalom library. It is also directed to the purchase of library equipment and supplies.

PRAYER BOOK FUND:  All donations to this fund are held in escrow and directed towards the purchase of new prayer books, bibles, etc. A book plate may be inserted in honor of happy events or “in memory of” departed loved ones.

EDUCATION ENHANCEMENT FUND:  Tuition only pays for about 70% of the cost of running our school. The remainder of the costs are assumed by the congregation and are financed in part by gifts. Monies in this area allow us to give ‘scholarships’ to those in need as well as purchase reference materials to assist our teachers. Donations also allow for the purchase of art supplies and fund outside programming for our students.

MARCIA T. ROSENBERG AND SUZAN WOLK ROSENBERG PRESCHOOL FUND:  Established in memory of sisters who were both B'nai Israel memebers and teachers. The fund permits special purchases and projects for those interested in early childhood Judaic education.

MARGARET’S GARDEN FUND:  Through sorrow comes great beauty. Part of the overall concept in the construction of our chapel, is the inclusion of a Contemplative Garden. Funds donated in memory of Margaret Schwartz Furman have been graciously directed to the construction of the garden by Dr. Jonathan and Roberta Schwartz. Monies donated to this area will be used for continued maintenance.

SISTERHOOD AND MEN’S CLUB FUNDS:  Everyone is aware of the great work that these two auxiliary organizations do to further the interest of our congregation both socially and spiritually. Both organizations help fund congregational projects and the schools. They have done numerous projects for our synagogue. The importance of these two organizations can never be underestimated by our congregation.

MEYER GISSER CHILDREN’S LIBRARY FUND:  Funds donated to the Meyer Gisser Children’s Library Fund are used for purchases of children’s books for the Adat Shalom library. These books are often used by our Preschool and Religious School for teaching aides.

ADULT EDUCATION FUND:  The congregation is committed to providing a variety of Adult Education programs to meet the wide area of interests of all of our members. Most of these programs are presented at no charge or for a nominal fee to our members. If Adult Education is one of your interests, please consider applying your donations to this fund.
