Gail Schmitt, Director of Pre-School and Camp Welcome to the Preschool page of the Adat Shalom Web Site. My name is Gail Schmitt and I am very proud to serve as Director of Adat Shalom Preschool and Summer Camp. In this position, I rely daily on my educational background and parenting skills. Each stop along my career path has contributed to, and strengthened my skills as a Director. My formal education includes a BA in Sociology with a Psychology minor from the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to the birth of my first daughter, I was employed at the Jewish Family and Children's Service. My years as a stay-at-home mom helped spark an interest in education; consequently, I returned to school and earned a certificate in elementary education. Upon receiving my education certificate, I worked for the Gateway and Plum Borough school districts for five years as a substitute teacher. Most frequently I was requested to teach at the kindergarten level. Teaching kindergarten in the eastern suburbs increased my interest in early childhood education, so I was very pleased to pursue this calling by accepting a regular position at the Adat Shalom Preschool. In addition to my interest in early childhood education, I have always greatly valued a strong Jewish education. As a volunteer, I have taught Judaica for the past ten years. Fourth and Fifth grade Hebrew are also part of my teaching experience. I enjoy the challenges each new day brings, and love watching our students grow and learn in a Jewish environment. My husband, Andy, and I live in Monroeville and we have two daughters, Erika and Lauren.
