Welcome to the Adat Shalom Library! Come and enjoy a quiet break. Browse among the books and periodicals.  Look up subjects of interest. Check out books, audio books on cassettes or CDs, and VHS tapes and DVDs. The collection of approximately 700 items can be searched with the user-friendly OPAC computer.

The Shabbat Library Cart, in the Social Hall on Friday nights and Saturday mornings, is stocked with a variety of materials for people of all ages.  A simple system of family cards, envelopes, and pre-stamped date-due slips makes it easy to borrow anything on Shabbat without writing.

Library volunteers, including teen assistants, provide materials requested by religious school teachers.  Classes use the library for research.  Volunteers also read to children in kindergarten and first grade. Volunteers Margy Mitnick and Barbara Kolmen lead the volunteer staff.

The library and Shabbat Cart displays feature books written or recommended by visiting speakers, requested by the Rabbi, or used in the Adult Education Programs.

Enjoy our new feature, Encyclopedia Judaica Online. Just click for it on the menu bar immediately above. When asked for a password, typegoadatshalom  (without the .org) -- all lower case. You will then be shown an on-screen input form. Type in any search word. Note also the options to search only the title, or by keyword, or by whole document. The default is "keyword." Whichever option you choose will make a big difference in the outcome. For example, in a search on "pesach," a title search returns 2 hits, a keyword search returns 6 hits, and a full document search returns 13 hits.

Dr. Saul and Emma Fleegler provided funding for the library facility, which was dedicated in December 1997.  Sisterhood and Men’s Club have provided significant contributions to the library. In addition, donations to the Library Fund support library functions, new acquisitions, and subscriptions.  Donations to the Meyer Gisser Children’s Book Fund provide additional children’s books for the Library.

Be sure to click on our New in the library list to see what has been added in the past 90 days.

Would you like to donate a book to the library in honor of or in memory of someone special?  Take a look at the on-line Wish list if you would like suggestions!  To dedicate a book, please email Margy Mitnick.

The library is open when the building is open.  Library volunteers are present to help you on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to noon during Religious School, and on Mondays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

We look forward to seeing you in the library!
